Leather Care With Venetian Shoe Cream

By Tanisha Berg

Leather products are usually expensive and in order to prolong their longevity, they need to be treated in a particular way. A product like Venetian Shoe cream has been around since the early 1900s and this product as well as many others are available from online stores today. This enables one to compare prices and look for the products that offer the ability to not only clean but protect and condition the leather as well.

Leather is not like all the synthetic fibers available today. One must never forget that it used to be the covering of a living creature. Once it is removed, it has to be treated in a certain way to remain soft and pliable. Without continued lubrication it becomes stiff and dry and fibers break down and crack.

Shoes are just one of the many items made of leather that require consistent maintenance. Shoes can be made of many different types of leather and particular products are designed to work on particular types of leather. For example, a product intended for calfskin may not be suitable for use on suede.

The best products with the most value for money usually contain a combination of ingredients all with different purposes. The cleaning ingredients need to be gentle so as not to cause harm but strong enough to remove dirt effectively. They should not be thickened artificially or contain harsh chemicals. Oils are used to soak into the leather, keeping it supple and able to breathe. Waxes are included for shine and to help cover scuff marks.

These products need to be applied correctly to be most effective. Correct application depends a great deal on the consistency of the product. One that is too thick may be hard to spread evenly and one that is too thin may be difficult to control. A fairly thick consistency that offers even application is best.

These products come in a variety of colors. The color chosen should be as close to the color of the leather as possible. A neutral one may be used too and this is often the best choice for two tone shoes. The color should not change the original finish too much although it could darken it a little.

Expensive shoes are an investment and should last for many years, if not for a lifetime. However, this will not be the case if they are not cared for properly. Proper care involves using the right products and even though some expense is incurred in their purchase, the results are more than worthwhile. Sometimes shoes that are older and have started to look dull could respond to the right treatment.

A beautifully maintained pair of shoes creates a favorable first impression. Keeping leather shoes in good condition is made easier when the right products are used. Leather is inherently resilient, but its life can be prolonged with the right care and as shoes can be an expensive investment the longer they last the better.
