In 2012 David decided on his own that he need to leave to honour the Mormon mission. The news that David will be going away for two years made his fans really upset because they knew they will not be able to see him for the next two years.
He had no formal contact with any of his relatives during that time. He did leave a video message for all the fans before he leaving. In that particular video he attempted to clarify why he had taken such a choice and why its so important and close to his heart to join the mission. He said to his fans as it is an extremely individual choice and individual thing for him so he needs some privacy in this matter as well.
He maintained his privacy throughout the time and also asked his fans to respect his privacy so that he can peacefully do what he wants to do and after returning back, he has already started working on new projects. He tried to do something different and he was able to achieve success in this regards.
David's family lives back in Utah and after returning from his mission, he has come back to Utah to spend some peaceful time with his family. Since he has returned, he had been involved in the making of a documentary. Apart from that, he also have released a few more of his videos and also toured around to make aware of his presence to his beloved fans.
