How To Build Complete Wardrobe Essentials

By Young Lindsay

You may want a new look or have lost all of your clothing in a move or fire. Whatever the case, to build complete wardrobe essentials is fun and exciting. You can completely re-do yourself just with new styles and different colors and accessories. It is a great opportunity to refresh your personal aura and appearance.

You can start the process by sorting all of the clothing items in your possessions. Get rid of articles that haven't been worn within the past year unless they are dressy items such as formal gowns or, in the case of men, a tuxedo.

Choose one to three basic colors that your selections will be based on. For extra mileage, black is always a good color to begin with as almost everything matches this shade. Choose one or two colors to go with your base shade. For example, with black, red and white are always good choices as they are strong colors that can be worn year round. Adding accessories to these will be a snap, especially around the holidays.

Separate your choices into categories such as casual, work, social and formal. You may not need all of these as it depends on your budget and your lifestyle. Some of these may work well in more than one category. For example, those black pants that may be your focal wardrobe item may work equally well in the casual, work, and social categories. In the casual category, add a black and white tee shirt. The work category may require a crisp, white button-down, and the formal category, a black tuxedo jacket with a white silk blouse may be just the look for you.

You may even wish to add an exercise or athletic category. The items needed would be tee shirts, leggings, yoga pants, shorts, running bras, running shoes, and more. Start slowly with only the basic items necessary and, as you gain expertise and skill, add to your fitness clothing selections.

When choosing any type of footwear, try to stick to basic colors like black and brown. These shades are extremely versatile and can work well with several types of fabrics and designs. Choose an array of boot styles such as riding boots, motorcycle boots, short boots, and dressy boots so you have several styles to choose from. Always purchase quality brands that will stand up to your busy and eventful lifestyle.

Shoe styles are almost unlimited. You need your flats, heels, clogs, running shoes and loafers, just to name a few. Choose what fits your lifestyle. For example, if you are not athletic or into running and walking, expensive running shoes are probably not something you need. If you like to go out on the town, then heels and sandals are requirement for you and your busy social life.

Formal clothing should only be purchased on an as needed basis. For example, don't purchase a formal gown or tea length dress unless you have an occasion to wear it. Save these luxuries for last in your budget as they are not needed often unless you have a truly glamorous life.

After you have made all of your selections and purchases, organize your closet and any drawers you may have to keep everything neatly in its place. Ask for the aid of friends or professionals if necessary to build a display of all the clothing you have selected and sorted.
