Do you realize how much popular culture affects your everyday goings-on? Chances are, you may have an inkling because of the general water-cooler talk and how it always seem to veer towards what was on television the previous night or what new music someone is into. If you actually took a pad and pen around with you and kept a record of what you talked about all day, you would see that popular culture has wormed itself into your life way further than you first believed. Chances are, you have funny t shirts that are based on these popular culture topics.

Music is a major contributor to pop culture. Recording artists stop being just people who contribute their music to the world at large and become icons that people fixate upon. People want to know what musicians think, say, and do. I simply do not understand how these people are looked to for input on anything but music. Many of them have no upper education and there are several who even lack a high school education. Why should I care what they think of the President or foreign policy? Yet as soon as Kanye West pulled his stunt and humiliated Taylor Swift at that award show, there were hundreds of funny shirts about it the next day.

Movies have to be one of the major contributors to popular culture affecting us today. Funny tshirts are constantly being made that are based on famous movie moments, quotes, and jokes. There are people in every friend group who memorize lines from movies and throw them out in conversation, whether the line is appropriate for the situation or not. It's become a social crutch for people who can't think of their own jokes, so they take the easy path and find common ground in things that everyone likes.

While t-shirt companies vie for the chance to have the best movie shirts, television has started emerging as a dominate media form. This may be due to so many excellent shows coming out year after year...but the funny t-shirts reflect that the lamest programming is what is being followed the most. Reality shows are undoubtedly the worst thing to happen to T.V....yet shows like Jersey Shore have tons of funny shirts dedicated to them.

I am myself a gamer, which means that I follow video games fervently. There are more and more people like me coming out every year in support of the industry. With this emergence into the realm of popular culture, we can go online and see that funny t shirts are springing up in support of the subject matter. If my theory of the connection between funny t shirts and pop culture is true, then we'll see lots more funny t shirts coming out in the coming years.

You only have to look at funny t-shirts to get a judge of what movies, television, music, and games are the most popular at any given time. Media has a strong influence on us all, even if we're aware of it. If some show that I love is mentioned in passing, I will spend time talking about it with a neighbor. I'm not sure if pop culture is a negative or positive thing on our society, but I do know that there is no way we'll ever be rid of it.
