Seahawks Hats Are More Popular Today
In the past it would be a very challenging quest to try and find an out of market football team hat or jersey. For instance, if you lived in Seattle you would be able to locate Seahawks hats pretty easily. All you would have to do is get yourself to the local mall and you would find anything that you could need.
But if you lived in Seattle and you were a Chicago Bears fan, well then you were in trouble. There would be no way you would find anything from the Bears unless you were able to find a store that specialized in obtaining gear from all the various NFL markets. Of course the prices might be a bit higher than one would expect. The shop owner would need to get back his shipping costs somewhere.
With the addition of some very good draft picks over the last couple of years, the Seahawks have actually turned into a team that people worry about. They worry about having to go to Seattle and play in their loud stadium. They worry about the quarterback not being able to hear the plays or other players not hearing him.
Then you had the middle of the road guys and the small guys. But everybody wanted the big fish. There were at that time, a couple hat manufacturers that stood out. To solidify their place they worked their way into an exclusive partnership with the NFL to do all their hats for teams and players. This was no uncommon in the industry as a couple years before Electronic Arts did the same for the players in their video games.
Getting all of this has made the NFL and the various teams a lot of money. That is just fine because in these cases everybody has gotten exactly what they wanted. So everybody is happy. The people who live in other markets like Illinois or New York, they can get Seahawks hats anytime of the year as well. In the past football merchandise was mostly sold only during football season.
Getting to the playoffs is a huge thing. Sure they want to win it all, but just getting to the playoffs after not having been there is so long was wonderful for their team and the fans. Again, making it to that level brings about another marketing opportunity. Because when you make it to the playoffs you have a chance to win the division.
These hats are what everybody wants too. They started a few years ago making the hat with a different unique design every year. The best part about how they marketed them though was giving them to the players. Every time a player was on the sidelines and not involved in the action on the field, he would be wearing the hats. The same hats that you can buy.

The fact that anybody could go to the store or to the team website and order the same hat that the star players are wearing is what has generated the sales.
