A Lavender Neck Wrap To Soothe And Calm

By Melba Hardy

A lavender neck wrap is just the thing to calm one after a long hard day. Made of soft, comfortable materials containing a pliable stuffing infused with the herb, it can bring cool tranquility after a hot, cranky day. Pick one up to relax after a challenging meeting. Throw it on and go to bed. Here is one frill no one should do without.

These devices soothe and calm after a harried day working. Whether one is standing for hours or trying to track down a client or a colleague, it adds up. People need to be on top of it, on the phone, walking around and moving the head and neck all day long. A soothing device for the neck that also has an added luscious scent can segue to quiet time on the sofa or outright napping in the bed.

There are wraps filled with special material that can be heated or chilled for comfort. Using the directions that came with it, place it in the microwave for 30 seconds, or leave it in the freezer the night before. Lay it around the shoulders for a calming, scented immersion into a tranquil state. Heat and chill it as many times as needed for years of use.

Some wraps are stimulated by the presence of hot water. Place it gently, then slip into a hot bath and the scent will rise to the nose. Breathe in calm and exhale stress with the scent that evokes relaxation. Then, just hang it up on the towel rack when finished.

Used to encourage sleep in a pillow scented with its flower buds, this amazing flower has also been steeped like tea in a cup of boiling water where it can be drunk. With its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory powers, it has many uses. It is also used as a condiment in food, in fragile sweets or an accent in mixed spices. They can be made using the raw flowered spikes, the rubbed version or the essential oil.

Lavender is a quintessential scent of the home used as a sachet in drawers or as a soap scent. It has a brisk, refreshing scent that reminds one at once of the outdoors, clean linen and the quiet of home. The wrap can be brought to work to still the harried motion of a busy day. Its healing properties may just sneak in, too.

Try a spa day at home. Draw the drapes, lock the doors, hide the phone and go to the bathroom and fill the tub with hot water. Heat up some towels in the dryer. Wear the wrap in the tub and settle in for nice, long, hot soak. Continue to wear it while doing a manicure or a facial. Leave it on and go right to bed.

If head and shoulder tension arises, or if the day is too full of noise and haste, have a lavender neck wrap moment right then and there. Lay it around the shoulders, close the eyes and envision enormous purple fields of the flower, like they have in England and France. Lavender's aroma opens the nasal passages, instills calm thinking and creates a sense of tranquil peace. One can always find a moment to quiet down, chill out and relax.
