An Analysis On The Indian Turban

By Leonor Rivera

A belle is a piece of cloth that can either be made of cotton or silk that is tied on the head and acts as a covering. It is often very light and feels very soft on the head. Although in most cases it may give a false impression of being heavy and bulky. Sometimes when wearing it a small piece of cloth can be first tied and then it can be tied above. A study on the Indian turban shows that it is commonly worn by the Sikh men.

All the Sikhs men wear aster which was made an official wear by one of the guru of the Sikhs, Guru Go bind Singh. He was the tenth Guru who made it a essential practice for the men to wear this clothing for a number of reasons. The main purpose was however to preserve the Sikh identity.

Sikhs believe that they need to show respect towards their God by not cutting their hair. Most of them therefore have long hair that is very hard to maintain. To therefore prevent it from dust and other dirt they cover it. They do not cover their beards on the fact that it is very easy to clean them as they clean the face.

Many other religions like the Muslim, Jews, and Hindus also cover their heads as they enter their worship places. This they believe is a symbolism of respect towards their gods in his presence. The Sikhs however believe that their God is everywhere they therefore do not cover their heads only in there worship places but everywhere. This is the main reason why they are seen wearing this clothing wherever they are.

To further remove these separation that was trying to move into these religion as a result of the divided social standards, the Guru unified them by the name. All the people of this religion were given a common last name. A study on the Indian turban reveals that with these two innervation the Sikh community was able to with stand all the persecutions and is a still existing community today.

Other religions that cover their heads include the Muslims, Jews and the Hindus. Some of these religions however cover their heads only when they are in their places of worship. They believe that their gods are present in these places and should therefore show them respect by covering their heads. They therefore cover their heads when they are only in such places.

Some other non planned reason for covering their heads was to prevent it from dust or dirt. It is very tedious to wash and maintain long hair. The Sikh men believe that it is not spiritual to cut their hair as a sign of respecting god creation. They therefore end up having very long hair.

A research on the Indian turban in addition shows that they do not appreciate wearing other colors. The red and green colors are not usually ware but most people prefer white, blue and black. The color preference nevertheless purely depends on an individual.
