For many years, turban tying has been practiced by people from various cultures in different parts of the world. A turban is a type of cloth which is mainly used as headwear by certain individuals coming from different religions. Some places where these are used include Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Kenya, and some regions in the Middle East, Asia, Jamaica, and North Africa.

With so many cultures using this garment, many variations of this also exist. The difference between cultures is with the technique on how the garment is tied or styled. This highly depends on the region, religion, culture, and even the purpose or function. Every country also has its own term for this cloth. In India, this is called dastar and pagri.

There are different techniques on how these are tied. Some are intended for men and some for women depending on cultures. Cloth length can also vary based on the variation or style used. Some people use cloths that are formed into a permanent style. In some styles, cloth is sewn into a foundation that is made on top of the head.

Among the many styles of how this is worn, there is a general type which is worn by men. The general type is the common one often used. This type is longer and goes around the head for about seven times. Another style for men is one that can be worn in the house or when doing regular activities.

Another style typically used by men coming from Punjab, India is termed as double wide. A six meter cloth which is cut in half is used for this style. The two pieces are sewn along the longer edge to make it wider or bigger. This technique results in a wider cloth but lesser wraps on the person's head.

Women also have certain styles to use for specific purposes. There is one style for women which uses two layers of cloth with one layer wrapped on their heads while the other layer serves as the outer covering. The first layer is usually three meters and the final layer is longer. Another style for women is one that is used inside the house.

To sum it all up, there are many different styles of wrapping this cloth on one's head. For people who would like to learn the techniques, plenty of tutorials can now be accessed.
