The Value Of Life Experience Degrees

By Sue Carpenter

For ages there have been conversations of a school of tough knocks. This metaphorical school was one which was focused on life learning. The students would go through ups and downs, good and bad, successes and failures. They might be knocked to the ground and have to find ways to get themselves back up. All of the experiences mix together to create a unique level of wisdom that can not be gained by attending colleges or universities. This is not a metaphorical educational opportunity any longer. Finally, there are opportunities to pursue life experience degrees.

Many would agree that education is very important. In today's times, the opportunity of having a career with great earning potential increases with the level of education. As a matter of fact, the average company now requires specific levels of education for various positions. They will not consider candidates who do not meet this criteria.

There are situations where students are finishing up their college careers with very high grade point averages. Yet, when some get on the job they are very ill prepared. And parts of their training can be provided by people that have more knowledge about the position but will never go higher because they lack a degree. They have the book knowledge. They can lack the knowledge that living brings. That is, they can lack the intuition that normally comes from living itself. So while earning large salaries they will grow their knowledge of skill and, as many people call it, common knowledge.

Many colleges and universities provide opportunities for cooperative education. When this occurs the students usually attend school for one term and the next term they are working. This rotation can continue until the student graduates.

When pursuing an experience degree situations can drastically change. It is basically a cooperative education program in reverse. Experiences that one goes through in this world can be credited towards a valued degree from a university or college.

For example there could be a person which migrated from another nation. They learned to speak fluent English as well as earn a high school degree while handling three jobs. The person an experience profile that has more to it than what many degrees can offer. There could be an individual that took care of ill parents or their brothers and sisters when they were preteens. They had to cook, balance the checkbook, clean, and serve as a father and a mother. This is solidly formed living education.

When pursuing life degrees a person should be careful where the look. There are some place that are at best questionable. The seekers should be aware of this. Then there are those which are accredited and legitimately offering this opportunity. The times involved in research should definitely be worth it.

Life experience degrees are gaining in popularity. This is because as the world continues to progress and grow wiser, the understanding is that life will always provide the best education. All other training, whether medical, engineering, or business, should center around the valuable lessons that life provides.
