These holy garments were originally worn by Romans, during ancient times. The same styles have travelled all the way down through history unchanged. What they worn then is the same thing they wear now.

The priests have to observe certain procedures at the time they put on the robes. They must prepare their physical self before they can wear the robes, and they do this by washing their hands first. Now, they are ready to wear the alb, which is a long white robe.

Next, the stole is placed around the neck of the priest. This piece of clothing is symbolic of the yoke of Jesus Christ. It also, has a meaning of immortality. The chasuble goes on last and it is a reminder of Christ yoke and charity.

In ancient times a Christian leader looked no different than the rest of the population, because everyone wore robes. The only way to know who was a leader was because they spoke in a different way.

It has only been that down through the ages the laypeople of the church started to associate robes and special garments as the attire for leaders in the church. At that point they considered them to be sacred.

Even with this decision the meaning goes deeper. Today, when people see individuals wearing robes they see it as a form of identification. It tells everyone that this person has a special calling on their lives, and that represent God.

They also serve another purpose. They keep person always striving to move toward the church and not world. It makes them aware that they are different and they should not be moved by what is going on in the world.

Making robes for the clergy is a important task. Only the best materials are used, and the skill level of those who make the garments is superior. They pain attention to the smallest detail.

It does not matter if it is a robe for a Catholic priest, or for a pastor, the same care is taken to ensure that they stand representing the calling on their lives. All denominations consider the clothing scared when they put them on.

The purpose of a clergy robe is to separate the person, who wears it from the things in the world. It also, indicates that they have given their life to the service of the God and the church. Even, their everyday attire keeps their life simple and free from distraction.
