Certain smells can trigger fond memories, especially if it is a familiar fragrance. Buying perfume for the first time can be an overwhelming experience. With hundreds of brands to choose from, when you buy perfume, and eager sales ladies armed with a bottle and a trigger happy finger it could even end up putting someone off for life.

With an overwhelming amount of brands to choose from this could be a nightmare. Coming to aid the decision are practiced perfumers, with the following easy rules. Go to a large store that stocks most brands of perfume and ensure that at least 2-3 hours are allocate to the task.

The following are set guidelines as recommended by expert perfumers. First of all do not wear any fragranced beauty products on skin or clothing. Secondly only spray the testers on the paper swabs provided, wait a few minutes before smelling as the first scent will be the alcohol in the fragrance. Taking as much time as needed and keeping an open perspective continue doing this, anything that catches ones attention should be written down on the swab.

By doing this the list can be narrowed down to a smaller choice. Once this is done it is safe to test the reaction directly on the skin, as not everyone will have the same hues coming to the fore. Applying more than one tester is possible by using the inner arm starting at the wrist and then two other spots higher up on the arm, taking care not to overspray any area.

Once applied refrain from rubbing the area as it will overheat and crush the molecules destroying the scent. Go have a relaxing mug of coffee, so as to allow the scent to mature for a few minutes and give the nose a much needed rest. After about five minutes the base under notes of the aroma will grow giving a perfect clue as to what the end overall smell will be on the skin.

Even if by now exhilaration over a specific tested brand is present, abstain from buying it without doing a further trial period. As an alternative return to the retailer and obtain a free sample, this should be possible with all major stores. Use the sample over a 24 hour time period to test how long it lasts for and whether or not it is in fact suitable.

Always be aware of what is being bought by asking the representatives about the product. Stronger floral notes are usually suited to over 40s and softer notes for the younger generation. Some may purchase more than one brand and alter between them or prefer a certain scent for daytime and another for an evening event.

Always be considerate when you buy perfume as it should not be too intense, instead only a subtle clue of its presence should be detected. Many women may rotate between which perfume is used for daytime and nighttime occasions. A passionate connection could ensue if the correct attributes are found when looking at buying perfume for oneself.
