Meet Hot New Actor Marlon Clarke

By Madeline Finch

Canada has given the world some incredibly talented actors throughout the years. Stars like Dan Aykroyd, Jim Carrey, Hayden Christensen, Michael J Fox, Brendan Fraser, Ryan Gosling, Mike Myers, Matthew Perry, Christopher Plummer, Keanu Reeves, William Shatner, Donald and Kiefer Sutherland and Alan Thicke all hail from this vast country in North America. Another Canadian actor who is starting to make his mark is Masimba Marlon Clarke.

Even though he was born in the Manitoba city of Winnipeg, Marlon lived in Trinidad and Tobago until he was five. The Clarke family then returned to Canada, once again settling in Winnipeg. When the boy was ten years old, the Clarkes moved again, this time to the province of Ontario to live in bustling Toronto.

As a high-school student, the young Mr Clarke realized that he wanted to pursue a career in acting. He switched to Drama as the first step in following this dream. Starring in school plays and taking classes in the craft after school helped him to nurture his talent.

After completing high school, the young man who dreamed of becoming an actor went to college to study journalism. He obtained his journalism diploma in 1999. However, he didn't forget about his acting dream. Living in Toronto was of course a great opportunity for anybody wanting to make it in the arts and entertainment scene, so he could work on following his destiny.

Within two years upon graduation, the break came in the form of a small role in an independent horror film by Paul Stoichevski. 'Massacre Up North' is the tale of a man who is terribly maimed in an accident and has to live with the mocking comments of others for years afterward. He then decides to take revenge on those who have mocked him. Marlon can be seen in the film in the guise of a police officer.

At around the same time, popular Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip released a new album, their seventh studio recording. One of the singles off the album was called 'My Music at Work'. The video features a drab office setting in which uniformly dressed 'office workers' become inspired by one of their colleagues' music. The up-and-coming young actor showed off his dancing skills in this video as one of the office workers.

In 2005 the third season of 'This is Wonderland', a popular comedy-drama with a legal theme, hit Canadian screens. The show features Cara Pifko in the role of a lawyer trying to navigate the Canadian justice system. It was aired to rave reviews from the critics and won several awards. In Episode 8 of the series, Marlon can be seen in the role of 'Omar number 2'.

At five feet and nine inches, Marlon Clarke not only acts, but models too. His acting skills have helped him portray different characters in print advertisements, including ones for sportswear giant Adidas, the airline caterers and restaurant chain Cara Foods, a digital media company called Captivate Network, Staples and Jackson Hewitt Tax Services. You can also admire the man's looks in print ads for the Canadian Blood Services as well as the Liquor Control Board of Ontario.
