Swapping Out Free Weights, Bringing in Kettlebells

By Rob Sutter

Kettlebells seem to be the new way to go when it comes to fitness. Gyms are becoming flooded with clients and space at the gym continues to get shorter. Not only is space limited, but equipment is limited too. Sometimes finding a machine, bench, weights, or treadmill at the gym can be a dreadful experience. If you are familiar with these weights, you can answer the question "What are they helpful with here?" The reason is easy: space.

If you feel that you aren't getting what you need at the gym, you should really try working out with kettlebells. If you have never heard of these weights before, they are cast-iron weights used for fitness purposes and fitness authorities like Lorna endorse them. They look like cannonballs that have handles attached to them. They were originally created in Russia and have recently received recognition in the United States.

Once you start to utilize kettle bells, you will find that many areas of the body are exercised. Areas such as the legs and shoulders feel a great deal of the burn, though the entire body receives a workout. Due to their many capabilities, these unique weights have been proven in the world of fitness as a great commodity, even more so than free weights, I believe. With just one of these distinct weights bought, sets of free weights like barbells aren't needed. You can always buy a second weight to accompany it but it isn't necessary.

Training with kettle-bells helps you accomplish your goals quicker than going to the gym would. Training with free weights usually has slower success rates when evaluated to these unique exercises. Those that are needed offer a great result no matter what you want to achieve. Weight loss, muscle building, and endurance building can all be gained through this form of training. These great results are attributed to the intensity of the workouts.

Kettle bells offer more explosive type of workout. This is mostly due to the construction of the weight. With said weight, the center of gravity goes past the hand. This is different than free weights, where the center of gravity is at the level of the hand. This allows for swinging actions as well as lifting, pushing, and pulling movements. These movements help add to how useful this unique weight is. For these reasons, it is a great alternative to free weights.
