Do you Wear Funny Irish T-Shirts On St. Paddy's Day?

By Francis Birch

When I say that I am a long-standing veteran of Saint Patrick's Day festivities, I really mean it. I have been going out and partying on St. Pat's most venerable of days since I was 19 years old. I've seen a lot of crazy things over the years, and I've become a much less crazy individual as the years go by. Being older and wiser now, I believe I've noticed that the funny Irish t-shirts people wear are a fair indicator of their own party-time motivations.

The huge majority of people at any St. Pat's Day throw-down are not really Irish at all. These people are your average watered-down American mutts who may be 1/16th Irish somewhere far down the line...if they have any Irish blood at all. Not knowing anything about real Irish culture, they wear funny Irish t-shirts that border on insulting. It's not really their fault. Blame American media, not their ignorance.

There are always going to be guys and girls at a Saint Patrick's Day bash that have one thing on their mind. Their only goal is to find someone up to heir standards to take home with them. These are the people who are wearing funny Irish t-shirts that are all about the sexy time. Their shirts may be funny and will make you chuckle, but their shirts also don't hesitate to mince words about what they want.

If you think for one second that the majority of people out on St. Paddy's Day are doing anything but getting smashed, then you're probably quite mistaken. The fact is that St. Pat's is a drinking holiday, and that's just fine by me. Every year, though, I've noticed that the very drunkest people in the room are all wearing funny Irish t-shirts about getting drunk. Funny how that works, isn't it?

The final entry into the funny Irish t-shirts personality test are the true-born Irish descendants who take their Irish upbringing extremely seriously. They are out drinking and partying just like everyone else, but they are doing it in celebration for the centuries of history, culture, and hardship of the Irish people. In my opinion, these are the people you should buy a beer and a toast.
