You Can Conquer Acne With The Right Help

By Steve Jones

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, and chances are pretty good that you've suffered the occasional, or perhaps more frequent, breakout. But what do you do when a breakout strikes? It's important to do your research on acne, as you could be inadvertently harming your skin more than helping it.

Stop touching your face. Your hands are host to all of the bacteria you pick up between washings. Most of these bacteria are foreign to your physiology, making reactions a likely possibility. Furthermore, touching your face will make it harder to resist picking at blemishes. Blemishes need time and care, to heal without scarring.

An important tip to consider concerning acne is that sometimes acne is cause by hormonal activity. This is important because along with the supervision of a doctor, using birth control pills can actually put an end to acne. This is an added benefit for one already using oral contraception. Or it might be something to consider as another form of treatment.

Most acne medications and even the pimples themselves, can make skin dry and tight. Acne-prone skin needs to be moisturized, you just need to get the proper moisturizers. Avoid anything that has oil or alcohol in them, as these can irritate the already compromised skin. Look for gentle, even natural lotions and creams that are made for acne-prone or very sensitive skin.

If you are experiencing acne, a trip to a dermatologist might be a good idea. They can evaluate your skin and suggest the appropriate treatment. If your acne is severe, they also can give you a prescription for something stronger than you can buy over the counter at your local drug store.

Regular exercise and relaxation are important to maintaining acne free skin. Studies have shown that for adults, stress is a significant factor in suffering from acne. Regular exercise has been shown to drastically reduce stress in adults, and thereby will also have an effect on how often you suffer from acne.

If topical acne medication is not working, try light treatments. There is evidence that medical grade blue LED light can kill acne bacteria, while red LED light can reduce inflammation. Used in combination, these two LED lights can be an effective acne treatment. Unfortunately, several light treatment sessions are required, and the costs can be expensive.

If you're suffering from acne, washing regularly sometimes isn't enough to prevent oil buildup. If you change your sheets regularly and use a fresh pillowcase or towel every night your breakouts should decrease dramatically.

Men who experience acne outbreaks should shave lightly to keep from cutting the top off their blemishes. If the beard is soaked thoroughly with mild soap and water before the application of shaving cream or gel, this will make the light shaving even easier and promote better acne skin care.

If you are battling acne never use an alcohol product or alcohol itself to cleanse your skin. It may seem at first to work at drying up your current pimples, but the harshness of the alcohol can actually cause more damage than good if used repeatedly. Ask a health care professional for the best way to cleanse your face.

If you are prone to facial acne trouble, always cover your face when you apply hairspray or other hair care products. Hair treatments that overrun onto the face help clog pores, giving your acne a boost you do not want it to have. This effect is common with even the most gentle, natural hair care products, so remember to cover up.

Use Betadine if you want to help clear pimples. This is an inexpensive acne treatment that can be found in grocery stores and pharmacies. It works by drying out the pimple and its surrounding areas. To use it properly, just apply it to the affected area at nighttime and wash it off in the morning.

So, if you have acne, is there hope? Yes, absolutely! Most people, at some point in their life, have struggled with acne. The good news is that there is a solution - put some of our tips into practice, and the result will be a clearer complexion and a happier you!
